Personal Childhood Web

'The most important single influence in the life of a person is another person ... who is worthy of emulation."

This section of my blog is dedicated to four very important individuals in my childhhod world that played a major part in the person that I am and I hope to become as I continue to grow....

My Father, Charlie Joe Johnson

My father has always been an intricate part of my world!  As a child, he pushed me to strive to be the best that I can be!  He combed my hair, I thought that was the coolest thing ever!  My father dressed me for school, ironed my clothes, and took care of me just as my mother did.  There was no mother role or father role, it was a joint experience.  My father made me feel special by cooking me a steak for dinner because I didn't eat spaghetti!!!!

My Mother, Sandra Johnson

My mother did everything she could to instill values and morals in me as a child.  She taught me to be honest and caring.  She was a great role model for me and I always said that I wanted to be like "my mom" when I grew up!  She always made it a point for me to understand that education is very important and something that no one can take from me.  One conversation that I remember having with my mom was about her saying to me that based on how she was raised....she knew the mother she didn't want to be...

My Grandmother, Theresa James

My namesake....my grandmother influenced me to grow up and be the diva that I am!  As a child, I remember we shopped, shopped, and shopped!!  I spent every summer as a child in Houston with my grandmother.  My grandmother was very proud of me, she told me that I was her baby!  We always had a special bond and everyone thought I had the sassiest grandmother ever.  I can honestly say she saw no wrong in me and I think she still feels that way!

Ms. Gay, My Kindergarten Teacher

I always thought Ms. Gay was so mean, but then  I realized she really loved me!  I remember that she had the best relationship with my parents and they communicated daily about my accomplishments in Ms. Gay's class.  I didn't realize Ms. Gay even knew where I lived until she showed up at my house one Sunday for dinner.  Ms. Gay wore glasses with the chain connected to them and she used to look at me over those glasses when I would act inappropriately and I knew what that look meant...it was the look of "love" and the look of "I expect more from you".

  1. How blessed you are to have had such wonderful childhood experiences. I simply love how your parents shared their parenting roles. Your grandmother intrigues me ... she sounds like someone I would like to meet and she would probably have a 1001 fascinating stories to share.

  2. You are a very blessed person! Your parents did a wonderful job with their co-parenting! I live by what your mother told you "based on how she was raised....she knew the mother she didn't want to be..."

  3. I enjoyed what you said about the relationship your parents had with you being a joint experience. I had not looked at my parents relationship that way, even though now that you said it I could see that they worked together.

  4. Theresa,

I also feel that you are truly blessed to have such individuals in your life. Your comment about your dad almost brought a tear to my eyes as my dad is now deceased, however , I remember when it would be just the two of us at home and he would be getting me ready for kindergarten and himself ready for work and I would ask a thousand questions and he would patiently answers them while still getting ready! Good times. :)

  5. What a wonderful sight to see your father holding you as an infant, and to think that a Dad actually combed his little girls hair; you are truly cherished by your family and if I do say, spoiled with love from your Grandma.

  6. Theresa,
I noticed that you added your Kindergarten teacher, that is awesome! I forgot what my teachers name was, however, I was always in trouble in that class at nap time because I always got the giggles. That teacher did leave an impression on me, however it was a negative. That is what I remember. Nice Blog...Come visit mine!
