Susan Bredekamp, Ph. D. from the childcare sector of the early childhood field stated in an interview with Early Childhood today, "If the first three years of life are deprived in terms of stimulation and interaction with warm, nurturing human beings, it's going to be real tough for the child to acquire the depth and breadth of verbal language needed to build reading abilities."
This is such a powerful statement!! Really made me think!
Louise Derman-Sparks, Professor Emeritus, Pacific Oak College stated in the video segment of Week 2, "Everything in me was being called on to teach, and it was very rewarding and made me feel whole."
Children make me feel whole also! That's why I've given this industry 18 years of my life!
I feel like we are thinking with one mind Theresa. The quote by Louise Derman-sparks is the first one that jumped out at me! How funny. Then I chose a quote by Dr. Thomas Berry Brazelton who is from the Health and Well-Being Sector who's words are very similar to those of Susan Bredekamp. We truly have the most wonderful careers, children do make us feel whole.
ReplyDeleteHi Theresa,
ReplyDeleteThe quote from Dr. Bredekamp really struck a chord with me. I too believe that from birth on, children need stimulation, warmth and nurturing relationships.
Good job.
Vanessa
I also chose Louise Derman-Sparks because she said her passion was for young children and she always knew she wanted to teach. So have I. The statement you found that Dr. Bredekamp made wow, I believe that is one of the reasons I chose early childhood because I knew how important the early years were for future learning.
